Tuan Haji Mohd Manap is our Chairperson (Penaung) at Akademi Tenggara. He was born and bred in Krubong, Melaka and hence why the Krubong Mosque was chosen as the logo and emblem of Akademi Tenggara. The history and culture represented by the Masjid Cina Krubong in our logo showcase the fabrics of knowledge, cultural and spiritual interactions of Southeast Asia and Asia at large.
Tuan Haji Mohd served in the army for the Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (Malaysian Royal Army) from 1962 to 1977. Following that, he served for Petronas Dagangan Malaysia from 1981 to 2003. He has been the epitome and proof that striving for education and maintaining a strong sense of morality, integrity and accountability is the key to living life with values.
In his own words, “While I could not pamper my children with wealth and financial stability given I myself was not at all educated, I had long ago believed wholeheartedly in education. I promised to myself and my wife to make sure that all my children to receive high education. I know I could not leave them with monetary treasures, but I now witness their education, skills, healthy self-esteem and their strong faith in Allah are much more valuable than anything material. That being said, they are now living life quite comfortably, too. That’s the power of education and hard work”
Tuan Haji Mohd is an enthusiast on anything history, politics, geography and wildlife. His favourite shows are the news, political discourses and documentaries.
Akademi Tenggara, as an institute and a social enterprise, stands on Tuan Haji Mohd’s strong shoulders. His aspirations decades ago are well alive and will continue to be a legacy.
